Cheer-Up Hut Club Now Open for Membership

Source: Veterans SA

South Australia’s Cheer-Up Hut Club is a digital storytelling club designed specifically with first time biographers and amateur writers in mind.

Many of the materials that will be provided to Members have been produced in collaboration with Veterans SA key project partner, the RSL Virtual War Memorial.

The RSL-SA and Legacy Adelaide, whose members and affiliate members are our main focus for sourcing Anzac stories are also working alongside Veterans SA to encourage as many South Australians as possible to tell their Anzac Centenary stories during this period of national reflection.

Members of the Cheer-Up Hut Club will be guided through a program of digital storytelling that can be completed over an eight week period or members can pace themselves according to their own time commitments.

The Anzac Centenary Coordination Unit (ACCU) within Veterans SA has identified the need for practical support with story preparation.

“Our interaction with the broader community suggests that South Australian’s are very interested to write about the service of their relatives, but are not quite sure where to start.”

“We would also like to encourage stories that reflect on the impact of war on families and communities throughout South Australia. These homefront stories that capture the resilience and courage of those who cared for the servicemen and women who returned home, and for those who lost their loved ones, often go untold,” said Sharon Cleary, Manager ACCU.

The stories contributed by South Australians through the Cheer-Up Hut Club will be uploaded onto the Anzac Centenary South Australia website.  They will be harvested as part of the Anzac Centenary Time Capsule project and will complement the stories of our servicemen and servicewomen recorded on the RSL Virtual War Memorial, the writing of which will also be supported through membership to the Club.

There is no better time than now to record South Australia’s Anzac Centenary stories for future generations. Be part of this South Australian Anzac Centenary initiative.
