Veterans Health Week August Update
This year Veterans’ Health Week (VWH) will be held from 21 to 29 October. This year the theme and many of the events are based around Physical Activity.
VHW is an opportunity to highlight the importance of physical activity and to encourage all members of the veteran community to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing, something that can be done in a wide variety of ways. DVA is partnering with ex-service organisations and community groups to develop a program full of fun and interactive activities throughout local areas.
Applications to host an event are open until 7 September. Details on how to apply to host an event or activity to support the veteran community can be found here.
One activity sees the return of the DVA 10K Steps National Challenge. This initiative, while encouraging the veteran community to take part in physical activity, is also commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Kokoda Track.
This virtual walk will take participants on a four week virtual journey through some of the most significant historical and geographical elements of this iconic track. The challenge will commence on Saturday 21 October in line with the first day of Veterans’ Health Week and conclude on Friday 17th November. You can register individually or as a team to compete for a number of national and local prizes.
The 2017 National 10K Steps Walking Challenge is NOW OPEN for registrations and expressions of interest. If you would like to express an interest to participate and do not have a team please email the DVA 10K Steps National Coordinator at 10Ksteps@dva.gov.au.
