Message from the Secretary of DVA, Mr Simon Lewis PSM

The Prime Minister has announced that I will be retiring from the Australian Public Service on Friday 18 May 2018.

I have been honoured to have served as the Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as well as the Commissioner and President of the Repatriation Commission since May 2013, and am proud of what the Department and Commissions have achieved in terms of delivering support and services to our veterans and their families.

My last day with the Department will be Friday 4 May 2018. I am delighted that the Prime Minister has decided to recommend to the Governor-General that Liz Cosson be appointed as the Secretary of the Department. Ms Cosson will act as Secretary from 7 May 2018 until the permanent appointment is finalised.

With the Department celebrating its own centenary this year, and entering its second century of operation, it is timely for the first female Secretary of DVA to have been appointed. I know that you will give Ms Cosson your full support.

Simon Lewis
