Research Participants Needed – Charles Darwin University Study

The Australian Contemporary Veteran:  A Study of Australian Defence Force veteran subjectivity post-discharge

The Project:  The focus of this study is: ADF contemporary veterans.  Contemporary veterans are veterans who have served in the ADF, and whose service encompasses or begins from 2001.  Participants will discuss military identities and the processes of discharge and their individual transition into university study.

Participation in the study is voluntary.  Up to 30 participants will be invited to participate in the study.  Veteran/participant stories will be collected through one-on-one, face-to-face interviews with the researcher, lasting up to 2 hours per interview.  Participants can choose to conduct their interviews in one block or divide the vlocks selecting duration and times suitable for them.  Phone interviews will be conducted if face-to-face is not possible.

Criteria for participation:  

  • Has served in the ADF (including those in active reserve) and undergone discharge/transition post 2001 and
  • Since discharge, has enrolled in and is currently completing a university program (not VET) at an Australian university, or
  • Has graduated from a university program (not VET) at an Australian university.

There will be no remuneration for participants.
