The State Library is delighted to be hosting display of a new portrait of World War One soldier Private Arthur Clifford Stribling. Born in Tarlee in SA’s mid north in 1890, Private Stribling died from wounds sustained at Villers-Bretonneux in France, Anzac Day, 1918, and was buried nearby at Blangy-Tronville.

Relatives of Private Stribling will be travelling to Blangy-Tronville in April this year to attend a ceremony to rename the local primary school after him. Painted by renowned South Australian artist Robert Hannaford, this portrait has been generously loaned to the State Library for display before it is also transported to Blangy-Tronville in April to be permanently displayed.
